FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are questions relating to maintenance and service of engines that use EGR, DOC, DPF, SCR systems to comply with Stage IIIB / Stage IV:

Service - EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)

Service - DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst)

No specific service is needed for the DOC system. However, bear in mind that the use of high Sulphur fuel (>10 ppm) will damage the DOC catalyst beyond repair.

Service - DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)

According to the recommendation in the Operation Manual, the first cleaning is after 4500 hours, and every 3000 hours thereafter. This interval can be less, depending on working conditions, application, quality of fuel, etc.

In addition to the standard maintenance items, the DPF maintenance needs to be performed according to the Operation & Maintenance Manual.

No, only an authorised Doosan dealer can service the DPF system. Your Doosan dealer is aware of all legal requirements that apply to DPF cleaning.

According to the legislation, you are not allowed to run the machine without the DPF filter, because the engine would not be able to meet the emissions regulations. Moreover, the machine will give numerous warnings and power will deteriorate.

Yes, Doosan has the “Doosan DPF CLEANING PROGRAM” to extend the lifetime of the filters and save dealers and customers significant expense by professionally cleaning used DPFs. To clean used DPFs, Doosan has a partnership agreement with an international leader in cleaning DPFs.

A DPF replacement typically takes from half an hour to 2 hours, depending on the machine model. If you require a DPF replacement, please contact your Doosan dealer.

The engine oil must fulfil the following quality requirements: ACEA E9 or API CJ-4 classification.
Note: that E9 requires fuel with a low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur) content.

There is no change in the life expectancy of Stage IIIB engines.

Service - SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)

For this type of engine, the AdBlue® circuit filter must be changed every 1000 operating hours.

On average, the engine consumes 5 - 7% of AdBlue® in relation to fuel consumption. However, actual consumption depends on working conditions.

The system gives a warning when the level of AdBlue® in the AdBlue® tank is too low. According to legislation, you are not allowed to run the machine without AdBlue®, because the engine would not be able to meet the emissions regulations. When the tank is empty, the engine torque is reduced.

As the SCR technology has been in use in on-highway trucks and passenger cars for a long time now, the AdBlue® additive is typically available at service stations.

The engine oil must fulfil the following quality requirements: ACEA E9 or API CJ-4 classification. Note that E9 requires fuel with a low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur) content.

There is no change in the life expectancy of Stage IV engines.

Service - Adblue®

AdBlue® is a non-toxic, colourless, odourless, 32.5% solution of urea and purified water. When injected into the exhaust flow, it turns the exhaust into nitrogen and water, which are environmentally safe. AdBlue® is used as part of the SCR system to reduce the amount of NOx in the exhaust.

AdBlue® is widely available at service stations. It is stored on the vehicle in a specially designed tank. The solution is injected into the SCR exhaust system at a rate of 3–5% in relation to diesel consumption. This low dosage ensures long running periods without refilling and minimises the effect on chassis space.

AdBlue® is a trademark of the German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA), which ensures that quality standards are maintained in accordance with ISO 22241 specifications.
Note that the solution must be stored and handled correctly, as failure to do so can damage the SCR system, prevent the AdBlue® from working correctly, and affect the vehicle’s warranty.

AdBlue® is designed not to be affected by freezing temperatures, and it is warmed by the engine coolant when inside the tank. Even if it reaches its freezing point (-11°C), the engine will continue to run while the fluid is defrosting, and the machine will operate normally.

DEF – known as AdBlue® in Europe – is the worldwide operating fluid for SCR systems.
